2016年初頭、海外のインターネット上で爆発的に流行したミームが「Damn, Daniel」です。

「すごいな」「やるじゃん」「イケてる」といった、軽く驚きながら相手を褒めるニュアンスで使われる表現です。

このミームの元になったのは、Twitterユーザーの joshholzz が投稿した短い動画。
動画では、友人のダニエルに向かって、「Damn, Daniel! (ヤベエな、ダニエル)」と声をかけるだけのシンプルな内容でした。

しかし、この動画が一気にバイラル化し、インターネット上で大流行します。

もともとはTwitterに投稿された動画でしたが、その後、多くの派生動画やパロディがさまざまなサイトで作られるようになりました。

「Damn, Daniel」の影響は非常に大きく、オリジナル動画を投稿した joshholzz は Swatting（SWAT部隊を送り込む悪質ないたずら）の被害に遭ったり、Twitterアカウントをハッキングされて人種差別的なツイートを勝手に投稿されるなど、悪質なユーザーの標的となってしまいました。
